Frankfort’s Summer Concert Series has returned, and it’s bringing the rhythm, energy, and joy of live
music back to the heart of downtown. Every other Friday evening from May – August , locals and visitors
alike gather on the Old Capitol Lawn to enjoy free concerts by regional and national performers. This
year, powered by Wesbanco & America 250 Grant, this series continues to be a cornerstone event for
our community.
As the State Capitol, we’re proud to celebrate our local history and community culture. We want to honor our America 250 & Kentucky roots together with great music, local pride, and a whole lot of fun!
The concerts kick off at 6:30 PM, but the festivities start well before then. Food trucks & local downtown
restaurants setup on the streets, boutique shops stay open late, and kids enjoy the dedicated play zone
powered by the Kentucky Historical Society. There’s a real sense of community as families set up lawn
chairs, friends gather with picnic blankets, and visitors stroll through downtown with drinks in hand.
This year’s lineup has included everything from soulful blues and high-energy rock to bluegrass and folk.
A crowd favorite, acclaimed musician Ben Sollee, whose cello-infused storytelling will soon captivate a
multigenerational audience at the last concert on August 29th. Other notable acts have brought covers,
originals, and everything in between, giving each Friday night concert its own unique flavor.
A highlight for many is the Split-the-Pot raffle, where concertgoers can purchase tickets to support the
concert series and have a chance to win a cash prize. These funds go back into supporting live events
and programming for downtown development.
The Downtown Frankfort Concert Series does more than just bring great music to the heart of the Capital
City—it’s also a powerful tool for regional marketing and economic impact. By showcasing our vibrant
downtown as a lively and welcoming destination, these concerts attract visitors from across the region,
whether they’re experiencing Frankfort for the first time or rediscovering its charm. We hope a night of
live music under the stars encourages concertgoers to return—to explore our shops, dine at our local
restaurants, and support the small businesses that give Downtown Frankfort its unique character.
Beyond their economic impact, these concerts also highlight the value of investing in public spaces and
cultural programming. They foster a strong sense of place and pride in our community, especially among
longtime residents who remember Frankfort’s rich musical heritage.
The Summer Concert Series proves that downtown Frankfort isn’t just a destination — it’s a community
hub. So whether you come for the music, the atmosphere, or just to be part of something special, there’s
a place for everyone on the lawn. Don’t forget your lawn chair, a cool drink, and your dancing shoes —
because Friday nights in Frankfort are not to be missed.
